Muhammad b. Ja'far told us, he said: Shu'ba told us, from al-Hakam, who said: I heard Dhakwan relate from a freedman of 'Amr b. al-'As, that he sent him to 'Ali to ask his permission to visit Asma' bint 'Umays, and 'Ali gave him permission; and when he had finished his errand, the freedman asked 'Amr about that, and he said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us" — or "forbade" — "that we should enter upon women without the permission of their husbands."
