حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ صَالِحٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ أَبِي الرَّبِيعِ قَالَ أَبِي هُوَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الَّذِي رَوَى عَنْهُ شُعْبَةُ وَلَيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ عَنْ الْقَاسِمِ مَوْلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَ دَخَلْتُ مَسْجِدَ دِمَشْقَ فَرَأَيْتُ أُنَاسًا مُجْتَمِعِينَ وَشَيْخًا يُحَدِّثُهُمْ قُلْتُ مَنْ هَذَا قَالُوا سَهْلُ ابْنُ الْحَنْظَلِيَّةِ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ أَكَلَ لَحْمًا فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ.

Abdul Rahman ibn Mahdi told us, he said: Mu'awiyah - meaning Ibn Salih - told us, from Sulayman Abu al-Rabi' - my father said: he is Sulayman ibn Abdul Rahman, from whom Shu'bah and Layth ibn Sa'd narrated - from al-Qasim, the freedman of Mu'awiyah, who said: I entered the mosque of Damascus and saw people gathered around an old man narrating to them. I said: Who is this? They said: Sahl ibn al-Hanzaliyyah. So I heard him say: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Whoever eats meat should perform ablution.
