Abdullah b. Muhammad b. Abi Shayba narrated to us - Abdullah said, and I also heard it from Abdullah b. Abi Shayba in Kufa - who said: Ja'far b. Awn narrated to us, from Ibrahim b. Isma'il, who said: Ja'far b. Amr b. Umayya informed me, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him alone as a scout to Quraysh. He said: "I came to the tree of Khubayb, fearing the watchers, so I climbed it and released Khubayb, and he fell to the ground. I withdrew a short distance, then looked back, and I could not see Khubayb - it was as if the earth had swallowed him - and no trace of Khubayb has been seen to this hour." Abu Abd al-Rahman said: Ibn Abi Shayba said it was to us from al-Zuhri concerning it, but as for my father, he narrated it to us from him without mentioning al-Zuhri; and Ibn Abi Shayba narrated it to us in Kufa, attributing it to us from al-Zuhri.
