Zayd b. al-Hubab narrated to us: Abd al-Rahman b. Shurayh narrated to me, who said: I heard Muhammad b. Sumayr al-Ru'ayni say: I heard Abu Amir al-Tujibi - his father said, and another said 'al-Janabi,' meaning other than Zayd, Abu Ali al-Janabi - say: I heard Abu Rayhana say: "We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a military expedition. One night we came to a high place and spent the night on it, and severe cold struck us, so much so that I saw men digging holes in the ground to enter into them, throwing their shields over themselves. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw this from the people, he called out: 'Who will guard us this night, and I will make for him a supplication that contains merit?' A man from the Ansar said: 'I will, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Come closer.' So he came closer. He said: 'Who are you?' The Ansari gave him his name. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) then opened with the supplication and prolonged it." Abu Rayhana said: "When I heard what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had supplicated, I said: 'I am another man.' He said: 'Come closer.' So I came closer. He said: 'Who are you?' I said: 'I am Abu Rayhana.' He then made a supplication shorter than what he had made for the Ansari, then said: 'The Fire is forbidden to an eye that wept, or shed tears, out of fear of Allah; and the Fire is forbidden to an eye that stayed awake in the way of Allah'; or he said: 'the Fire is forbidden to another, third eye' - which Muhammad b. Sumayr did not hear, but the other narrator - meaning other than Zayd, Abu Ali al-Janabi - did."
