Al-Hakam ibn Nafi' told us: Isma'il ibn Ayyash told us, from Damdam ibn Zur'ah, from Shurayh ibn Ubayd, who said: Al-Irbad ibn Sariyah said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to come out to us in the Suffah while we wore rough woolen garments, and he would say: If you knew what has been stored up for you, you would not grieve over what has been withheld from you; and Persia and Byzantium will surely be opened up for you.
