'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us from Mu'awiya ibn Salih from Rabi'a ibn Yazid from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amir al-Yahsubi, who said: I heard Mu'awiya relate, saying: 'Beware of narrating hadiths of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, except a hadith that was current in the time of 'Umar, for 'Umar, may Allah be well pleased with him, made people fearful for the sake of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Whoever Allah wishes good for, He grants him understanding of the religion. And I heard him say: I am only a treasurer, and it is Allah, Mighty and Majestic, who gives; so whoever I give a gift to out of a willing heart, it will be blessed for one of you; and whoever I give a gift to out of greed and importunate begging, he is like one who eats but is never satisfied. And I heard him say: A group of my nation will continue dominant upon the truth, not harmed by whoever opposes them, until the command of Allah comes, and they remain dominant over the people.'
