قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ عَنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ صَعْبِ بْنِ جَثَّامَةَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ مَرَّ بِي وَأَنَا بِالْأَبْوَاءِ أَوْ بِوَدَّانَ فَأَهْدَيْتُ لَهُ حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيَّ فَلَمَّا رَأَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْكَرَاهِيَةَ فِي وَجْهِي قَالَ إِنَّهُ لَيْسَ بِنَا رَدٌّ عَلَيْكَ وَلَكِنَّا حُرُمٌ قُلْتُ لِابْنِ شِهَابٍ الْحِمَارُ عَقِيرٌ قَالَ لَا أَدْرِي حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ الصَّعْبِ بْنِ جَثَّامَةَ أَنَّهُ أَهْدَى إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ فَذَكَرَهُ.

He said: Abdullah told us: Muhammad ibn Bakr told us: Ibn Jurayj informed us: Ibn Shihab informed me, from Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah ibn Utba, from Abdullah ibn Abbas, from al-Sa'b ibn Jaththama, that he said: He passed by me while I was at al-Abwa' or Waddan, and I gave him a gift of an onager, and he returned it to me. When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saw the displeasure on my face, he said: "It is not that we return it upon you, but we are in the sacred state." I said to Ibn Shihab: "Was the onager freshly hunted?" He said: "I do not know." Yazid ibn Harun told us: Ibn Abi Dhi'b informed us, from al-Zuhri, from Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah ibn Utba, from Ibn Abbas, from al-Sa'b ibn Jaththama, that he gave a gift to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, of an onager, while he was in ihram - and he mentioned it.
