Abu al-Yaman told us, saying: Shu'ayb informed us, from al-Zuhri, who said: Abd al-Rahman ibn Abdullah ibn Ka'b ibn Malik told me that Ka'b ibn Malik, when Allah, Blessed and Exalted, revealed what He revealed concerning poetry, came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: "Allah, Blessed and Exalted, has revealed concerning poetry what you already know; what do you think of it?" The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The believer struggles with his sword and his tongue."
