حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ أَخْبَرَنَا مُجَالِدٌ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِكِتَابٍ أَصَابَهُ مِنْ بَعْضِ أَهْلِ الْكُتُبِ فَقَرَأَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَغَضِبَ فَقَالَ أَمُتَهَوِّكُونَ فِيهَا يَا ابْنَ الْخَطَّابِ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَقَدْ جِئْتُكُمْ بِهَا بَيْضَاءَ نَقِيَّةً لَا تَسْأَلُوهُمْ عَنْ شَيْءٍ فَيُخْبِرُوكُمْ بِحَقٍّ فَتُكَذِّبُوا بِهِ أَوْ بِبَاطِلٍ فَتُصَدِّقُوا بِهِ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْ أَنَّ مُوسَى صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ حَيًّا مَا وَسِعَهُ إِلَّا أَنْ يَتَّبِعَنِي.
الترجمة الإنجليزية
Surayj ibn al-Nu'man told us, he said: Hushaym told us, Mujalid informed us, from al-Sha'bi, from Jabir ibn Abdullah: that Umar ibn al-Khattab brought the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a scroll he had obtained from some of the People of the Book, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) read it and became angry, and said: Are you confused about it, O son of al-Khattab? By Him in Whose hand is my soul, I have brought it to you pure and clear. Do not ask them about anything, for they might tell you something true and you disbelieve it, or something false and you believe it. By Him in Whose hand is my soul, if Moses (peace and blessings be upon him) were alive, he would have no choice but to follow me.
