Ya'qub told us, my father told us, from Ibn Ishaq, 'Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn 'Aqil ibn Abi Talib told me, who said: I went to see Jabir ibn 'Abdullah al-Ansari, brother of Banu Salima, and with me were Muhammad ibn 'Amr ibn Hasan ibn 'Ali and Abu al-Asbat, a client of 'Abdullah ibn Ja'far, who was pursuing knowledge. We asked him about performing wudu after eating food touched by fire. He said: I went out seeking the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in his mosque but did not find him. I asked about him and was told he was at al-Aswaf with the daughters of Sa'd ibn al-Rabi', brother of Bal-Harith ibn al-Harith ibn al-Khazraj, dividing their inheritance from their father among them. They were the first women to inherit from their father in Islam. So I went out until I came to al-Aswaf, which was the property of Sa'd ibn al-Rabi', and found the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in a grove of palm trees which had been sprinkled with water for him, and he was in it. A meal of bread and meat that had been prepared for him was brought, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ate, and the people ate with him. Then he urinated, then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, performed wudu for Dhuhr, and the people performed wudu with him. Then he led them in the Dhuhr prayer. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sat attending to what remained of dividing the inheritance among them until the time for prayer came and he had finished his business with them. They brought back to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, the remainder of his meal of bread and meat, and he ate, and the people ate with him. Then he rose and led us in the 'Asr prayer, without having touched water again, nor did any of the people.
