Abu Sa'id told us, Abu 'Aqil, that is Bashir ibn 'Uqba al-Dawraqi, told us, Abu al-Mutawakkil al-Naji told us, from Jabir ibn 'Abdullah, who said: I traveled with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, on one of his journeys — I think he said it was a military expedition. When we turned back returning, he said, "Whoever wants to hurry ahead, let him hurry ahead." I was on a dark reddish camel, unmatched in the army, so I pushed forward on it until the people were behind me. While I was like that, my camel suddenly stopped and would not move. Then I heard the voice of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying, "What is the matter with your camel, O Jabir?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I do not know what has happened to it." He said, "Hold on, and give me the whip." I gave him the whip, and he struck it once, and the camel then carried me at its utmost pace. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, then said to me, "Will you sell me your camel, O Jabir?" I said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Come to Medina." So he came to Medina, and entered the mosque with groups of his companions. I tied up my camel and said, "This is your camel, O Messenger of Allah." He came out and began circling it, saying, "What an excellent camel — my camel!" Then he said, "O so-and-so, go and bring me some ounces of gold." He said, "Give it to Jabir." So I took it. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Have you received the full price?" I said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Then the price is yours, and the camel is also yours" — or "the camel is yours, and the price is also yours."
