Waki' told us, from Sufyan, from Ja'far, from his father, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to stand and deliver a sermon; he would praise Allah and extol Him as He deserves, and say, "Whoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whoever He leads astray, none can guide. Indeed the best speech is the Book of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and the worst of matters are those newly invented, and every newly invented matter is an innovation." And when he mentioned the Hour, his cheeks would flush red, his voice would rise, and his anger would intensify, as if he were warning of an army, saying "It has come upon you morning and evening." [He would say:] "Whoever leaves behind wealth, it is for his heirs, and whoever leaves behind dependents in need or a debt, it falls upon me and to me, for I am the guardian of the believers."
