حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ حَدَّثَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ سُئِلَ جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصْنَعُ بِالْخُمُسِ قَالَ كَانَ يَحْمِلُ الرَّجُلَ مِنْهُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ الرَّجُلَ ثُمَّ الرَّجُلَ.

Affan told us, Abd al-Wahid told us, al-Hajjaj told us, Abu al-Zubayr told us, who said: Jabir ibn Abdullah was asked: How did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, deal with the one-fifth share? He said: He used to give one man from it in the cause of Allah, then another, then another.
