حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ جَابِرًا عَنْ شَأْنِ ثَقِيفٍ إِذْ بَايَعَتْ فَقَالَ اشْتَرَطَتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ لَا صَدَقَةَ عَلَيْهَا وَلَا جِهَادَ.

Hasan told us, Ibn Lahi'ah told us, Abu al-Zubayr told us: I asked Jabir about the affair of Thaqif when they gave their pledge of allegiance. He said, "They stipulated to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that they would owe no charity tax and no obligation to fight."
