Yahya told us, from Abd al-Malik: Ata' told us, from Jabir, who said: I witnessed the prayer with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, on the day of an Eid, and he began with the prayer before the sermon, without any call to prayer or iqamah. When he finished the prayer, he stood leaning on Bilal, praised Allah and extolled Him, admonished the people and reminded them, and urged them to obey Him. Then he proceeded to the women, with Bilal accompanying him, and commanded them to fear Allah, admonished them, praised Allah and extolled Him, and urged them to obey Him. Then he said: "Give charity, for most of you are the firewood of Hell." A woman among the lowlier women, with dark cheeks, said: "Why is that, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Because you complain excessively and are ungrateful to your husbands." So they began removing their jewelry, necklaces, earrings, and rings, throwing them into Bilal's garment as charity. Ishaq ibn Yusuf told us: Abd al-Malik told us, from Ata', from Jabir ibn Abdullah, who said: I witnessed with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, a day of Eid, and he began with the prayer before the sermon - and he mentioned the same meaning.
