Bahz told us: Sulayman ibn al-Mughirah told us, from Thabit, who said: Anas told us, "Safiyyah fell to Dihyah's share of the captives, and they began to praise her before the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him," saying, "We have not seen among the captives anyone like her." He said: So he sent for Dihyah and gave him whatever he wanted for her, then handed her over to my mother and said, "Prepare her." He said: Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, set out from Khaybar, and when he had placed her behind him on his mount, he dismounted and pitched a tent over her. In the morning he, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Whoever has any surplus provisions, let him bring it to us." He said: So one man would come with surplus dates, another with surplus barley meal, another with surplus clarified butter, until they made from that a dark mixture of hays, and they ate from that hays and drank from troughs beside them filled with rainwater. He said: Anas said, "That was the wedding feast of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, for her." Then we set out, and when we saw the walls of Medina, we were overjoyed to see them, so we raised the pace of our mounts, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, raised the pace of his mount. He said: Safiyyah was riding behind him, for he had mounted her behind him. Then the Messenger of Allah's mount stumbled, and he was thrown down, and she was thrown down. He said: No one looked at him or at her until the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stood up and screened her from view. He said: We came to him and he said, "She is not hurt." He said: Then he entered Medina, and the servant girls of his wives came out to look at her and to gloat over her fall. — Hashim ibn al-Qasim told us: Sulayman told us, from Thabit, from Anas, who said, "I certainly saw a wedding feast of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that had neither bread nor meat in it, when Safiyyah fell to Dihyah al-Kalbi's share, and they began to praise her" — and he mentioned something similar in meaning.
