حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي الْأَنْصَارِيَّ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ سَمِعَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نِدَاءَ صَبِيٍّ وَهُوَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَخَفَّفَ فَظَنَنَّا أَنَّهُ إِنَّمَا فَعَلَ ذَلِكَ رَحْمَةً لِلصَّبِيِّ إِذْ عَلِمَ أَنَّ أُمَّهُ مَعَهُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ.

Muhammad ibn Abdullah, that is al-Ansari, narrated to us: Humayd narrated to us, from Anas, who said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, heard the cry of a small child while he was in prayer, so he shortened it, and we thought he did that only out of mercy for the child, since he knew that its mother was with him in the prayer.
