Ubaydah narrated to us, from Humayd al-Tawil, who said: Anas ibn Malik was asked about the raising of the hands, so he said: Some of the Muslims stood up to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, on a Friday and said: "O Messenger of Allah, rain has withheld, the land has become barren, wealth has perished." He said: So he prayed for rain, raising his hands until I saw the whiteness of his armpits, and we did not see a cloud in the sky. Then he stood and prayed until the one whose house was nearby began to think of returning home because of the intensity of the rain. He said: We remained seven days, and when Friday came again, they said: "O Messenger of Allah, the houses have collapsed and the riders are held back." He said: So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "O Allah, around us, not upon us." He said: So it cleared away from Medina.
