Bahz ibn Asad told us, Hammad told us, Thumamah ibn Abdullah ibn Anas informed us, from Anas ibn Malik, that the companions of the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, came to him one night, so he went out and prayed with them, shortening it, then he went into his house and stayed a long time, then he came out and prayed with them, shortening it, then went into his house and stayed a long time. When morning came, they said, "O Messenger of God, you prayed, and you would stay long when you went in, and shorten it when you came out." He said, "It was for your sake that I did that."
