al-Hasan narrated to us: Hammad ibn Salama narrated to us, from Thabit al-Bunani, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: When this verse was revealed, "O you who believe, do not raise your voices..." to the end of the verse, Thabit ibn Qays sat in his house and said: "I am one of the people of the Fire," and stayed away from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. So the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, asked Sa'd ibn Mu'adh, saying: "O Abu 'Amr, what is the matter with Thabit? Is he ill?" Sa'd said: "He is indeed my neighbor, and I know of no complaint of his." He said: So Sa'd went to him and mentioned to him the words of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Thabit said: "This verse was revealed, and you all know that I am among the loudest of you in voice over the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, so I am one of the people of the Fire." Sa'd mentioned that to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Rather, he is one of the people of Paradise."
