Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us: Ibn Abi 'Arubah narrated to us: Qatadah narrated to us, from Anas ibn Malik, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: The believers will gather on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be inspired in them to say, "If only we sought intercession with our Lord, Mighty and Majestic, that He might relieve us from this place of ours." So they will go to Adam, peace be upon him, and say, "O Adam, you are the father of mankind; Allah, Mighty and Majestic, created you with His own hand, made His angels prostrate to you, and taught you the names of all things — so intercede for us with our Lord, Mighty and Majestic, that He may relieve us from this place of ours." Adam will say to them, "I am not fit for that," and he will mention the sin he committed, and he will feel shy before his Lord because of it, and he will say, "But go to Nuh, for he was the first messenger Allah sent to the earth." So they will go to Nuh, and he will say, "I am not fit for that," and he will mention to them his fault and his asking his Lord, Mighty and Majestic, about that of which he had no knowledge, and he will feel shy before his Lord because of that. "But go to Ibrahim, the intimate friend of the Most Merciful, Mighty and Majestic." So they will go to him, and he will say, "I am not fit for that, but go to Musa, peace be upon him, a servant to whom Allah spoke directly and to whom He gave the Torah." So they will go to Musa, and he will say, "I am not fit for that," and he will mention to them the soul that he killed without right, and he will feel shy before his Lord because of that. "But go to 'Isa, the servant of Allah, His Messenger, His word, and His spirit." So they will go to 'Isa, and he will say, "I am not fit for that, but go to Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, a servant whom Allah has forgiven his past and future sins." So they will come to me" — al-Hasan said this phrase — "and I will rise and walk between two rows of the believers" — Anas said — "until I seek permission before my Lord, Mighty and Majestic, and I am given permission. When I see my Lord, I will fall down, or fall prostrate, before my Lord, Mighty and Majestic, and He will leave me as long as Allah wills to leave me. Then it will be said: 'Raise your head, Muhammad; speak, and you will be heard; ask, and you will be given; intercede, and your intercession will be accepted.' So I will raise my head and praise Him with a praise He teaches me, then I will intercede, and He will set a limit for me, and I will admit them into Paradise. Then I will return to Him a second time, and when I see my Lord, Mighty and Majestic, I will fall down, or fall prostrate, before my Lord, and He will leave me as long as Allah wills to leave me. Then I will return to Him a third time, and when I see my Lord, I will fall down, or fall prostrate, before my Lord, Mighty and Majestic, and He will leave me as long as Allah wills to leave me. Then it will be said: 'Raise your head, Muhammad, and speak, and you will be heard; ask, and you will be given; intercede, and your intercession will be accepted.' So I will raise my head and praise Him with a praise He teaches me, then I will intercede, and He will set a limit for me, and I will admit them into Paradise. Then I will return a fourth time and say, 'O my Lord, none remains except those held back by the Qur'an.'" Anas ibn Malik narrated to us that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "So whoever said 'There is no god but Allah' and had in his heart good equal to the weight of a barley grain will come out of the Fire; then whoever said 'There is no god but Allah' and had in his heart good equal to the weight of a wheat grain will come out of the Fire; then whoever said 'There is no god but Allah' and had in his heart good equal to the weight of an atom will come out of the Fire."
