943/1238(حسن الإسناد)عن السائب[ هو ابن يزيد]، عن عمر قال:"ربما قعد على باب ابن مسعود رجال، قريش، فإذا فاء الفيء، قال: قوموا(1)، فما بقي فهو للشيطان"، ثم لا يمر على أحد إلا أقامه. قال: ثم بينا هو كذلك إذ قيل: هذا مولى بني الحسحاس يقول الشعر، فدعاه فقال: كيف قلت؟ فقال: ودع سليمى إن تجهزت غازياً ……كفى الشيب والإسلام للمرء ناهيا فقال: حسبك، صدقت صدقت.
الترجمة الإنجليزية
Al-Sa'ib [ibn Yazid] reported from Umar who said: 'Sometimes Umar would sit at the door of Ibn Mas'ud with men of Quraysh. When the shade appeared, he said: "Get up. What remains is for Shaytan." He would not pass anyone without telling him to get up.' Then one day, someone said: 'This is the freed slave of Banu al-Hushas who recites poetry.' He called him and said: 'What did you say?' He said: 'Leave Sulma, if you are preparing to go out as a warrior... Gray hair and Islam are enough as a deterrent for a man.' He said: 'That is enough; you have spoken the truth, you have spoken the truth.'
